An article at spiritscienceandmetaphysics.com website titled “7 Things You Must Know to Be A Free Thinker” got me to thinking. Actually – I’ve been thinking on the topic for a while now. Like, well… several years.
It starts out with:
If you want to be a free thinker, embrace chaos, novelty, disruptive change and non-conformity. Free-thinkers live on the brink of social breakdown. They live on the edge, away from the anesthesia of normalcy and institutionalized control. They are not held captive by the rigid walls of the dominating worldview. They do not fear change, poverty or conspiracy. If you want to free your thinking and become an agent of change and novelty, there are a few things you need to recognize and understand.
The seven topics the article addresses are:
1. Creativity is your natural birth right
2. Group thinking and herd mentality are your enemies
3. Perspective is key
4. Knowledge is provisional
5. Popping the time bubble
6. Defying institution pressures
7. Perception is to be altered not accepted
It concludes with this:
To be a free thinker, you have to break free from social, institutional, and cultural conditioning. You also have to break free from your skeptical/rational mind at times, and allow your imagination and intuition to be your guide. Don’t be afraid to step outside of the box.
Imagination, intuition, creativity – how can we support and engender these qualities in ourselves, our children, our co-workers? Maybe we will need to think outside the box. We CAN do it! We must for all of our sakes.
